About the Film
Boys Clap, Girls Dance is a 10 minute long animated short about, Girl, a pre-teen who exists in an artificially constructed world. A pair of omnipotent hands assembles and dismantles the spaces around her. She's aware that something is changing but isn't sure how much of it is coming from within her or from the circumstances created for her. Will this external power always exist to influence her actions and desires? Is she living for herself or for others? We follow Girl as she moves throughout her day, navigating the obstacles, people, and places, that are always in constant flux and that she may learn, are ultimately dictating what she knows about her life and doesn’t.

Director, Animator
Dena is a bi-racial animator and illustrator based in Chicago. She plays with formats and structures, such as games or educational videos, to explore ideas of gender, role, and competition.
Her work has screened at festivals such as GLAS Animation Festival, San Diego Underground, & Istanbul Experimental Film Festival.
Executive Producer
Having penned two hit songs; Camera One, which reached # 1 Triple A radio and #17 on the Billboards Top 20; and Jessica Lea Mayfield’s, Blue Skies Again, which had over a million downloads and counting on iTunes; Joshua David Blum (He/Him/His) spent years endlessly touring North America, Europe, and Australia, as Josh Joplin. In 2013, he retired from the road, dropped the pseudonym, and founded, NarrowMoat. This small production company focuses on short form mixed media such as one act plays, off-beat musicals, animation, and film. In 2018, NarrowMoat wrapped production on About Colonia, which has now been shown in film festivals around the world, winning Best Actress at Queens World Film Festival. NarrowMoat is currently in production on Boys Clap/Girls Dance, an animation short from animator/artist Dena Springer, whose work has been screened at GLAS Animation Festival, San Diego Underground, & Istanbul Experimental Film Festival. And under development is The Windchill Factory, a short-series online graphic novel. Josh still writes songs and plays music with his bands, Among The Oak & Ash and GpYr. On April 3, 2021 GpYr released a full-length album called, Likes On The Lonely Web.
